Adventure?

Hey guys. Forgive me if this info is somewhere in the last 20 posts, I'm getting charged by the minute for internet access right now so I'm not reading old posts. What is everyone doing the weekend of SandBlast? The reason I mention it is that I am moving into my new place that weekend, and if people are going up for the tournament we could have a primitive campout in my townhouse living room. Thoughts? I'll be back in town on the 30th (or the 29th? maybe I have no concept of time).

P.S.- Our commune just got moved to Alaska

Questions answered

A little lesson in anatomy, hormones etc.

The gall bladder is indeed not a vital organ. Its purpose in the body is to transfer bile from the liver to the intestine. After received from the liver, the bile release from the gall bladder is stimulated by the hormone cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is a hunger suppressant (i.e. it signals satiety) and acts to release digestive enzymes and bile from both the gall bladder and pancreas. Once bile is released from the gall bladder it travels to the intestine where the it is reabsorbed. This is efficacious because it increases water retention and reabsorption of bile through the intestinal wall. If the gall bladder needs to be removed, unconcentrated bile will drain directly from the liver to the intestine which isn't dangerous but does reduce the efficiency of bile absorbtion/digestion.

The pancreas secretes insulin, glucagon and somatostatin (growth hormone inhibiting hormone).

Couscous is made from rolling and shaping semolina wheat and coating with finely ground wheat flour.

I am on week 5 out of 6 of this fat pill/cream cheese study and I am the only one that has not had (almost) any rise (or fall) of my serum triglycerides. Apparently I'm stable, which is abnormal and the professor hates me. I am the outlier of his data.

minnesota state parks

ive been looking into the minnesota idea for our vacation, and found this website.

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/map.html

it shows the location of each state park in MN, and links to their websites. Since there are so many parks, we can camp at a few different parks over the trip. then on the way back drop kata off in MN. (or some variation of that plan.) ive been looking at the parks a little bit. they dont seem too expensive and look like they have plenty to offer in the way of hiking/camping/canoeing. i dont know what all goes into planning camping trips, but this seems like it shouldnt be too bad (especially if we move from park to park).

Two's Day Night

So what's goin' on tonight kids? I feel like a little disc golfin' if anyone else is up for it. I get done with class in about 2 and a half hours ago, so I should be free for whatever after that. There were some talks of a possible recycling run before we go disc golfing... depending on what time people feel like starting those activities we might be pressed for time concerning dinner. The Zilla has to eat by 9 or her car turns back into a pumpkin or something. I'm thinking maybe postpone the recycling trip a day or two?

Thoughts? When do people finish work? Who actually wants to go disc golfin'?

Also, what's for dinner tonight guys?

Love,
Uncle Joey Galdstone

P.S. 1408 sucked, but it still got an 8/10 on imdb.com ... yikes.

Hopped up on coffee

So...today I had a pretty large cup of coffee since I was up early had to drive a lot and then work all day. Ever since I've been at work I've been freaking out. Tony just left me in charge of figuring out what primers to order for a project I'm going to work on. It seems like a really important task and my brain is having a hard time doing anything right now...here we go. Hope I don't screw up all the data for the next few weeks...

A new [less] awkward question

So I was running around town doing some errands today, and I went to get a haircut. You may have heard my haircut stories before, but if not, basically there are only two human beings who I allow to cut my hair unless there is no chance of me getting to see them for months. Both of them happen to work in the same barber shop and one of them gave me my first haircut. Needless to say, there's a special bond. Well I got to Werner's Barber Shop and went inside only to learn that both Bob and Werner have retired! I left quietly trying not to insult the other three barbers who took over. So I've been thinking about barbers all day and I thought of a new awkward question:

Which of your friends would you let lather you up...and then give you a shave with a straight razor?

Ladies, keep in mind that this is your jugular we are talking about. Thoughts?

Oh NASA

I understand that nasa does a lot of good for us...but articles like this are so one sided and this is what the public sees so often. eric, go out and put a good name to nasa. maybe write an editorial to time.

Story Time With Darcy

Please Darcy as soon as you get an opportunity.....put it on me!

tonight and tomorrow - by scrote bagley

seeing as how I don’t have a job
obviously means I don’t have a boss
so noone can say I can’t go to the store
and pick my ass up some alfredo sauce

concerning the softball game here’s what I think
though it’s at 8, I think we should go
cause without lots of players at pickup it stinks
cause c’mon, let’s face it, those high-schoolers blow

afterwards Indian dinner sounds nice
I’ve never had it and it sounds really good
as long as the restaurant is crawling with mice
I just cant have dinner without poop in my food

disc golf sounds fun tonight, yeah we should go
and afterwards quickly whip up a nice dinner
ironically k-zilla is fasting, you know
with only reeses pieces and fat pills within her

so huzzah for tonight and huzzah for tomorrow
I hope this post satisfied all of your wishes
cause now I must leave you and tend to the kitchen
to gather the pots and the pans to do dishes

my softball game is at 8pm this wednesday, it will finish at 9ish. do we have dinner plans?

Tuesay's planned activites

What's going on tonight? I missed one night and I feel lost. There's nothing on the calendar and there's no frisbee to be played. Can we go disc golfing after I get out of work? Can we maybe go bicycle riding? Is there a dinner?
Has anyone ever gone into work early in the morning only to discover a few hours later, after interacting with about 15 people, that you have 2 different shoes on?

yea...one brown, one black....

Keep up the good work, see ya'll at family dinners this week...that's right it was plural...we can have salad more than once if you'd like. Um...can we please re-count p-days on here so that at the end of the summer we have something to go back and look at and remember all the crazy shananigans besides the pictures?

Challenged

Oh, and I have no idea how to invite Darcy to this blog....

don't make fun of me

Another TBD?

About the Minneapolis trip (weekend July 22-23) -

My parents are really excited to help me find apartments and are planning a trip in early July (which also means I may have to miss a Click You event....sigh....). This could change our plans in one of two ways. Either it becomes another TBD weekend (since apt finding hopefully would already have happened and since I'm not sure exactly how excited everyone is to go to Minneapolis - its kind of far) OR since I would already have an apartment (hopefully) we could go to Minneapolis, have a place to stay (albeit empty) and visit Jimmy/discover Minneapolis. I'm down for either although I realize it depends entirely on me actually sequestering an apartment.

Anyway let me know what you guys think - and I'll let you know if I find a place to live/whats happening with that.

Time Wasters

Another way to waste time, jess gave this to me tonight...

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_frisbee

Indy Concert

Um...should we be getting tickets for that concert in indy or is it something we can do at the door?

PS I'm still ultra full from that delicious Indian food that we had....oh chicken...

After summer league 6/7

we're goin to go eat indian food at some place near the fields, you are all invited.
What do you guys do when you seem to have hit the end of the internet. I need ideas of things that I can look up that would seem educational so that when I'm wasting time on the internet I don't just look like I'm effing around...I want to look like a good kid that doesn't waste time, but rather, spends their time being educated and well informed. I will still have 3-4 hours of downtime today and I've read most of the latest news.

Rules of having friends

If you are going to be missing an event you should inform the group so that we don't have to worry about you and whether or not you've been kidnapped by creepy people.

A day in the life of a butler employee

okay...so ive been working on designing a tail gearbox (TGB) and intermediate gearbox (IGB) for butler for about 9 months now. the tgb and igb are extremely important parts of the helicopter, they make the blades on the tail of helicopter spin. (without it, helicopters cant fly).

we have been in the preliminary design phase (PD) the entire 9 months, and the design review that the customer (sikorsky) must give the military (navair) is approaching. actually, our PDR must be complete and given to sikorsky for review in less than 2 weeks.

heres the status of the TGB

the tgb is about 30-40 lbs OVER-weight (thats alot), and doesnt meet ANY of the stress criterion (much less the severe stress criterion where it needs work when part of it is broken). im also pretty sure that even with fancy manufacturing techniques, that we cant even make this stupid piece of junk. the cherry on the top of this shit cake? the loads we use as a stress group to evaluate the design have just been INCREASED by 30%.....

30%!!!!! WTF, 2 weeks before PDR the all-knowing sikorsky engineers realize the loads theyve been giving us for 9 months(!) are incorrect. So, we have 2 weeks to fix a design that hasnt worked since day 1, only now the loads are 30% higher.

well, thisll be fun. When the year 2011 comes around, and you get a chance to fly in the new CH53-K Heavy Lift helicopter...dont...trust me.

Tenative Calendar of Events

This is what we came up with last weekend. Check your date books to see if theres any conflict so we can adjust. I have updated the upcomming events list as appropriate. Oh, lets think of some things to do for the TBD weekends.
